Suffolk Cricket – Clubs Update – Coronavirus

March 27, 2020

I hope you are all well in these challenging times for us all.

Since our last communication, the Government has implemented further changes, the Prime Minister has advised what we are allowed to do with immediate effect and these arrangements will be reviewed in 3 weeks’ time.

All the details can be found via: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

The ECB’s statement from 18 th  March is still relevant, whilst Sport England has recently updated theirs:

ECB: https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/1646355/ecb-statement-on-the recreational-game
Sport England: https://www.sportengland.org/news/coronavirus-information-sector

It is recommended that you keep an eye on Sport England and Government updates through their websites.

The ECB have also given assurances that formal guidance will be issued in the coming days, which of course we’ll communicate ASAP. In the meantime the following recommendations will hopefully help;

Club Development Plan and Funding Update

We are waiting for information from ECB regarding the financial support that may be available, which will include clubs that have outstanding ECB loans.

We think that it would make sense for clubs to work up contingency plans covering various eventualities. We also suggest that they should develop, or where appropriate update, their development plans (link to example below) – including a way forward – and perhaps include a financial assessment of the club’s current and estimated future position, with a comparison to the past three seasons. A projected cash flow will be particularly crucial.

Please do consider how your club can stay relevant and in people’s minds in the local community through on-line games/videos, members webinars

Affiliation

Thanks to all of you that have affiliated to Suffolk Cricket this year. Affiliation fees ensure the provision of support for clubs from Suffolk Cricket and the ECB. At this stage we do not know what if any cricket will be played this season, however once known we will review payments made.

Councils and Landlords

We recommend that each club makes contact with their landlords and discusses the possibility of a rent holiday and/or reduction.

Grounds volunteers or employees

Guidance issued to club grounds, chairs and secretaries 26/03/20, however any questions or concerns please contact facilities@ecb.co.uk and please cc rjones@suffolkcricket.org

Indoor/outdoor nets

In line with the ECB statement on 18 th  March, all indoor cricket and all outdoor cricket activities are postponed until advised, this includes 1-2-1 coaching sessions.

Overseas players

Do contact them and their agents as the situation obviously will alter their plans.

On-line Cricket Games/Activities

Along with contacting respective club leads with general communications, we’ve been updating our platforms to show activities that individuals and/or families can take part in whilst at home; these can be located via:

Website:       https://suffolkcricket.org/
Facebook:     https://www.facebook.com/suffolkcricketboard/
Twitter:        https://twitter.com/suffolkcricket
YouTube:     https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtVzlgNsFlRu54dZBAInSWQ/featured

On-line Courses

We are currently awaiting an update from the ECB concerning potential to run on line courses (eg 1st aid). We will update separately ASAP.

National ECB Programmes (All Stars Cricket/Dynamos)

We are awaiting an update from the ECB. We will communicate about this asap. Most importantly it is clear that we want everyone to look after their own health and that of their members; this is the main priority of all.

In line with government guidance, Suffolk Cricket employees and volunteers are working from home. Wherever possible, the team will continue to give support and will continue to provide updates as often as necessary.

Please keep in contact and stay safe.

Best wishes,

Suffolk Cricket Development Team
