SYC party are off to South Africa
February 2, 2023A PARTY of Suffolk Young Cricketers leave next week for a 10-day trip to South Africa.
A total of 17 players, comprising Girls U15s to U18s and Boys’ U13-U15s, fly out on Friday, February 10th to Cape Town.
They will play four T20 matches as well as having four practise sessions of four hours each.
The trip follows on from a similar venture to Sri Lanka a year ago. The tour party from that trip are pictured above.
Suffolk Cricket Performance Lead Andy Northcote, who has organised the trip, said: “This is very much a training camp where players will have the opportunity to learn both on and off the field about their games, and wider life experiences.
“None have been to Cape Town, nor played a match under lights, so this alone sets our trip up to be magical. From a training point of view, we are linking with their current coaches and player journals to ensure that the training time spent is focussed on their needs.
“Whilst we have four sessions each of four hours, the players will be training in pairs or small groups for the large percentage of it.”
The party will also watch two Women’s T20 World Cup matches – India versus Pakistan and Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka – at Newlands, one of the most scenic grounds in world cricket.
The travelling part is as follows: Anders Bester, Bobby East, Imogen Papworth Heidel, Charlotte Oastler, Freddie Foyster, Amelie Bull, Ben Thomas, Saanvi Kumar, Sophie Hughes, Sophie Singer, Megan Haynes, Charlotte Gaunt, Henrietta Croot, Grace Gurr, Lottie Grace James, Zayan Imam, Adithi Thayur, Andy Northcote (Tour Manager), Lara Neild (coach), Ben Wallis (coach) Javed Imam (Tour Health Care Professional).
