Izzy’s signing is a feather in the cap for Suffolk
April 19, 2026WOMEN’S Head Coach Johan de Silva said Izzy Sidhu’s signing for Surrey is ‘a real feather in the cap’ for Suffolk.
The 22-year-old left-arm leg spinner has signed her first professional rookie contract after impressing during the winter training block and pre‑season.
De Silva, who took over as coach prior to last season, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Izzy as Suffolk Women’s County Coach.
“Her immense skill, hard work and dedication, particularly with the ball in hand, has led to lots of success for her, and we wish her all the best in her ongoing journey at Surrey.
“It’s a real feather in the cap for the county and I am delighted that she is another Suffolk player who will be playing on the professional women’s stage, along with Esmae MacGregor at Essex.
“I am optimistic that we will be producing many more in years to come as we continue to do great things here in Suffolk.”
Izzy, who is one of the Sidhu triplets along with sisters Imogen and Poppy, said of signing for Surrey: “The team and staff have been so supportive to my progression over the last 18 months, and I’m looking forward to paying that back.
“Surrey’s facilities and staff are excellent so I can’t wait to take the pitch at the Kia Oval and hopefully help the side to more success.”
Izzy started playing for Suffolk at Under-13 level and was a regular in the side along with her sisters from U15s upwards.
She was part of the Suffolk side that won the Vitality Women’s Regional T20 competition for the first time in 2022 and the East of England competition at the first attempt in the same year.
She had a gap year playing cricket in Adelaide in Australia before attending Surrey University to study veterinary medicine.
Izzy has been a part of the Surrey Academy since 2025 and featured for Surrey’s Second XI last summer as well as representing the county side since 2023.
Following a strong 2025 season, she continued to train with the squad over the winter and toured South Africa with the side during pre‑season.
Izzy’s signing will add depth to Surrey’s squad, providing an additional spin option to strengthen their bowling attack.
Emma Calvert, Director of Women’s Cricket, said: “Izzy has worked extremely hard over the last year and is showing promising development.
“We’re pleased to be able to reward that effort with a professional contract.
“Izzy will provide depth to our bowling attack during what will be a busy summer of cricket.”
