KBB Centre Grassroots Cricket Festival Success!!
Last week saw the first ‘KBB Grassroots Cricket Festival’ take place at Copdock & OI Cricket Club. It was a glorious couple of days with perfect weather for Cricket! The event was put together with the organisation of Suffolk Cricket, and the generous sponsorship of The KBB Centre
The idea behind running the event was to get as many children as we could in one place playing cricket for free. Thursday saw our Under 9 day with over 100 children taking part in non competitive cricket matches across 6 pitches. Each team played on average 6 matches against other Under 9 teams. Friday was our Under 12 day which turned out to be even hotter for them than the Thursday! We ran 3 hardball pitches and 1 softball pitch so that all abilities could take part.
The children on both days had a wonderful time and made some memories with their friends. During their rest time they were invited to take part in the Suffolk Cricket Skills Zone which went down a storm with the fun activities we had running. The children that took part on the Thursday were also lucky enough to have the All Stars mascot ‘Twinkle’ present them with their gifts for taking part and being such great sports.
Next year we hope to build on this and have even more children join us for what we plan to be an annual event. Roger Peck of KBB Centre said “We are delighted to have been in a position to support the event and to have been associated with the inaugural Suffolk Cricket Grass Roots Festival. Therefore, it is extremely rewarding to learn that there were in excess of 200 children who benefited over the two days. We do hope the Festival becomes an annual fixture in the Suffolk Cricket calendar and look forward to being able to assist with the continued development of the event in the foreseeable future.”
“Lastly, I would like to thank all of the volunteers that gave up their own time to make this event happen, along with everyone at Suffolk Cricket that helped put the event together. Copdock & OI Cricket Club for the use of their facilities and the KBB Centre for the kind sponsorship to allow this festival to be created”
