“Porting in” of DBS checks by individuals who are registered with the DBS Online Update Service – Important information for Club Welfare Officers

A number of roles in cricket that involve working with children need a DBS check (formerly CRB). We now have a process that allows people who work with children in other sports, or in their day job, to use their existing DBS check PROVIDED THEY ARE REGISTERED WITH THE DBS ONLINE UPDATE SYSTEM.

If so, and they want to do this, they must contact GB Group, who are administering the process on behalf of the ECB (Contact ECBchecks@gbgplc.com or telephone 0845 251 3000). GB Group will send guidance, a consent form, and a Post Office Document Certification form to the individual, who needs to follow the process as set out in the guidance.

If they are not registered with the DBS Online Update Service they must make an application in the usual way. The individual should not be allowed to undertake the role that requires vetting until they receive their documents back from GB group.

As ever, there is no need for anybody at the club to look at anybody’s DBS certificate.
