Women’s East Anglian Premier League
June 22, 2021The Women’s East Anglian Premier League (EAPL) is the highest level of club cricket in East Anglia and involves 5 teams from Suffolk. The league matches are highly competitive and are a great spectacle to watch throughout the summer.
The WEAPL has launched this year for its inaugural season and consists of players and teams from across East Anglia, including Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Women’s EAPL matches consist of 40 overs per side and are played on Sundays throughout the Summer. The league intended to begin with the 2020 season, however, due to COVID it was postponed until this year. As a result, the League currently has no champion or ‘team to beat’, so 2021 looks to be an exciting season with all to play for.
The 2021 season began in the first week of May with a high-quality match between Easton CC and Mildenhall CC, with Easton taking the first victory in the League. The season will finish in mid-September with a potentially title deciding all-Suffolk clash when Melton St. Audry’s CC take on Woolpit CC at Melton.
The season so far has already seen many notable performances including:
- The first ever Women’s EAPL 50 by Madeline Reynolds for Mildenhall CC
- Match winning figures of 4-22 on the opening day by Vicky Mitchell for Easton CC
- 47* by Nat Samuels to lead Woolpit CC to victory against Easton CC
- A hundred-run opening partnership between Francesca Hughes and Olivia Locke for Copdock and Old Ipswichian CC, scoring 85 and 70 runs respectively in the match
This weekend sees only Suffolk teams in action when Melton St Audry’s CC take on Copdock and Old Ipswichian CC at Melton St. Audry’s CC.
