List A Matches
SUFFOLK have been involved in a number of List A matches down the years.
A List A match is the domestic level of one-day cricket below One-Day Internationals.
Below is a complete list of List A matches that Suffolk have been involved in since their first foray into the former Gillette Cup back in 1966. An aerial view of the match against Kent, which was played art Ipswich School, is pictured above.
List A matches have provided Suffolk with the opportunity to play against some of the leading stars in World cricket, namely Colin Cowdrey (Kent), Imran Khan (Sussex), Clive Lloyd (Lancashire), Sir Richard Hadlee and Clive Rice (Nottinghamshire), David Gower (Leicestershire), Allan Lamb (Northamptonshire), Sir Ian Botham and Graeme Hick (Worcestershire) and Graham Gooch (Essex),
And two future England stars both played against Suffolk at Mildenhall – James Anderson appeared for Lancashire Cricket Board in the NatWest Trophy in 2000 and claimed his first professional wicket when he dismissed Suffolk’s Russell Catley, while Kevin Pietersen was in the Nottinghamshire side that played at Wamil Way in the Cheltenham & Gliucester Trophy a year later.
Although Suffolk have never beaten a first-class county they have come close a couple of times – at Hove against Sussex in the Gillette Cup in 1979, when they lost by two wickets, and at Bury St Edmunds versus Northamptonshire in the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, when the visitors won by just one wicket.
