June 24, 2021

SUFFOLK bowler Freddie Heldreich took a wicket in a winning T20 debut for Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

The 19-year-old bowler was handed his first start by the Steelbacks in Wednesday night’s Vitality Blast fixture versus Durham at Emirates Riverside.

Freddie, who made his T20 debut for Suffolk in 2018 and played in two T20 fixtures versus Cambridgeshire last summer, responded with figures of 3-0-23-1, bowling Ben Raine for 14 to claim his maiden Blast wicket.

The 6ft 2in tall left arm wrist spinner, who is a former pupil at Framlingham College, helped contain a Durham side that included England all-rounder Ben Stokes, to 157 for 5.

The Steelbacks, without a win in six previous attempts this season, won by nine wickets with 13 balls to spare as Ricardo Vasconcelos (78 not out) and Adam Rossington (59) shared an opening stand of 125.
