PCA England Legends head to Suffolk
June 30, 2021A TEAM of former England players will be visiting Suffolk next month.
The PCA England Legends will take on Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club in a T20 match at the Victory Ground on Friday, July 23rd, from 3pm onwards.
Devon Malcolm, who also played for Suffolk, Mark Ramprakash, Matthew Hoggard, Monty Panesar and Alex Tudor are among those players expected to be in the line-up.
It will be the second time in five years that the PCA England Legends have played in the town, with around 500 people turning out to watch them play a combined Bury St Edmunds CC and Worlington CC XI in 2016.
The PCA England Legends agreed to a return match as part of Greene King’s sponsorship of the England team to mark the centenary of the Victory Ground.
Edward Lake, who was Managing Director of Greene King at the time, persuaded his board to purchase 26 acres of land and open a sports ground to commemorate the employees of Greene King who took part in the First World War. He had six sons of his own who fought in the War and all returned home.
The fixture was originally earmarked for last year but was postponed because of Covid, but is now scheduled to take place four days after lockdown restrictions are due to be lifted.
Bury St Edmunds CC President David Barker said: “The match will be the first sizeable sporting event in the county post-lockdown, so hopefully people will be able to come along and enjoy it.”
Corporate hospitality in a marquee for around 230 guests, who will enjoy a sit-down lunch, Q&A session with some of the England players and an auction, has almost sold out.
England players will take part in a coaching session prior to the match, while there will be the chance to see how fast you can bowl by visiting the Cricket Factory.
Bury St Edmunds CC will be making a donation to the NHS and providing free tickets for employees at the West Suffolk Hospital.
Proceeds from the match will go towards a new state-of-the-art three lane net facility to replace the current two-lanes at the Victory Ground. An appeal has been launched to raise the £60,000 required.
Tickets for the match are priced at £5 in advance for adults and children over 15 or £10 on the day. Children under 15 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
Parking will be £5 per car and spectators can bring their own seats. There will also be an outside bar and refreshments available.
Tickets are on sale in the pavilion at the Victory Ground, via the Bury St Edmunds CC website or from David Barker via email david@ejbarker.co.uk or call him on 07876 496064.
