Suffolk Over-70s reach national final

August 27, 2021

SUFFOLK Over-70s are through to a national final.

They will face Leicestershire in the final of the National Vase competition on Thursday, September 2nd at Kidderminster CC.

Suffolk booked their place in the final thanks to a nine-wicket win against old rivals Norfolk at Stowmarket CC.

The home team restricted Norfolk to 177 for 7 from their 45 overs with all the bowlers performing very well and being backed up by some really excellent fielding.

Neil Hames (90 not out) then guided Suffolk to their victory target with the help of David Adams (29) and Ray Black (33 not out).

They had previously beaten Hertfordshire Over-70s in the quarter-finals at Woolpit CC, where it was again their bowlers – Dave Hinchcliffe, Peter Christie, Alan Burt, Peter Webb and Neil Hames – who all bowled very well as Herts were held to 175 for 8.

Suffolk then chased successfully their target down, with Neil Hames (85 not out) leading the way well supported by Ray Black with 52 and Peter Boughton (24 not out) to win by seven wickets.

The team for the final will be unchanged from that which played in both the quarter-final and semi-finals ties.
