Suffolk name squads for T20 fixtures

A CLASH with the ECB National Club Championship has played havoc with Suffolk’s team selection for Sunday.

Suffolk travel to Manor Park in Horsford to face Norfolk in their penultimate NCCA T20 competition Group 3 double-header.

With both Mildenhall and Sudbury involved in Sunday’s preliminary round fixtures in the ECB National Club Championship, several players are not available to represent Suffolk.

It means Sudbury duo Ben Parker and Matt Wareing and Matt Allen and Tristan Blackledge of Mildenhall are all unavailable.

However, Freddie Heldreich (pictured above) returns and comes into the side along with Max Dias while there is a debut for 16-year-old Arthur Summers, who plays his club cricket for Worlington.

Suffolk, who then face Hertfordshire in their final Group 3 fixtures at Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC on Monday, are unable to qualify for finals day after losing twice against Cambridgeshire at Wisbech, before sharing one win apiece versus Lincolnshire.

Ben Claydon scored Suffolk’s first-ever century in the shortest format in the first match last Sunday as Suffolk won by nine wickets, before losing the second rubber by 11 runs.

Suffolk T20 coach Adam Mansfield reflected: “The boys played brilliantly on Sunday and it was just a shame we couldn’t get over the line in the second game.

“The atmosphere around the group was that of proving a few people wrong and showing what a good side we can be.

“We had a lot more energy about us in the field and played with a lot more intent when batting.

“We probably weren’t at our best with the ball in the second T20 but we know that and now it’s about learning from it.

“Ben’s innings is up there with the best I’ve witnessed in limited overs cricket for Suffolk CCC. He’s a great lad and we really hope he can kick on to become a real force for us with the bat this season.”

Mansfield, who admitted it had been a difficult week so far as team selection is concerned, added: “We’re continuing to go with the strongest XI available to us as we want to try and take some winning momentum into our NCCA 50-Over Trophy campaign.”

Suffolk squad for Sunday: Jack Beaumont, Ben Claydon, Josh Rymell, Alex Oxley, Josh Cantrell, Darren Ironside, Arthur Summers, Tom Rash, Jacob Marston, Freddie Heldreich, Max Dias. Ben Parker, Tristan Blackledge and Matt Wareing replace Jacob Marston, Max Dias and Arthur Summers on Monday.
