ECB Update

August 8, 2024

To all members of the cricket community and beyond,

We condemn the violence and disorder currently being experienced across the UK. Cricket stands against hate and discrimination in all forms. Such actions are deeply distressing and undermine the very values that we, as a community, hold dear. As the ECB and as the game, we are committed to creating an environment where safety is paramount, and everyone can participate without fear of discrimination or violence.
Sport should be a unifying force that brings together people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. It is imperative that everyone involved in cricket—players, coaches, fans, and administrators—feels welcome and supported.
Over the past few days, we have heard from people across the game who feel fearful to be out in public, travel freely, or participate in normal cricket activities – many of which the game has been forced to cancel due to safety concerns.

Safety

During this period, safety should be paramount. We know that organisations are taking appropriate steps to safeguard participants and staff. We recommend being aware of local news and making informed decisions around the safety of running different activities.
Discuss working adjustments for anyone impacted in key areas. We have heard that public transport feels daunting for some, and we urge conversations between leadership/EDI leads and colleagues, employees or volunteers.

Report Discrimination

We want to act on discrimination that happens anywhere in cricket. If you are a victim or a witness to discrimination, the independent Cricket Regulator wants to hear from you:

https://www.cricketregulator.co.uk/report-a-concern.

All reports will be triaged appropriately, and where they meet a criminal threshold, they will be passed to the police.

Stand Together

Please reach out to staff, volunteers, players, fans, and local communities and stay connected. Our passion for cricket brings us together as a community. We value and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and each person’s unique contributions. Whether playing, working, or supporting the sport, we must stand united in our commitment to inclusivity and respect for all. Together, we ensure cricket is a place where everyone is welcome and valued.

Cricket is proud to be a game for everyone.
