Amelie to skipper Women’s side

AMELIE Clarke will captain the Suffolk Women’s side for the first time in Sunday’s Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup tie away to Devon.

She skippers the side in the absence of regular captain Lara Neild, who is one of several players unavailable for the second-round match at Budleigh Salterton CC, start 12.30pm.

Charlotte Anderson, who top-scored with 40 not out on her senior debut in the T20 friendly at Ipswich School a fortnight ago, makes her competitive bow.

Former captain Natalie Samuels returns to the side for her first match of the season.

Suffolk Women’s first-team coach Johan de Silva said: “This is a great opportunity for Amelie Clarke (pictured above) to lead the side for the first time in the absence of Lara Neild.

“We have changed the team around to experiment as part of the Knock-out Cup.

“We are excited to play against a different opposition and test ourselves against them, and looking forward to seeing another part of the UK too.”

Suffolk had a bye in round one, while Devon defeated Dorset by four wickets at Bournemouth CC on Bank Holiday Monday.

They dismissed Dorset for 71 two balls shy of their 20-over allocation, before ensuring a nervy chase which culminated in them winning with five balls to spare.

Suffolk Women: Amelie Clarke (capt), Charlotte Anderson, Megan Haynes, Natalie Samuels, Olivia Locke, Sophie Hughes, Olivia Hyndman (wkt), Tamsin Holmes, Maddy Reynolds, Lauren Swinburne, Amber Bradnam.
