Excellent start by U18 Girls

June 4, 2025

SUFFOLK Under-18 Girls have made an excellent start to their season.

They followed their 238-run victory over Cricket East in the first round of the U18 KO Cup with two comfortable wins against Cambridgeshire Cricket Board in Group 6 of the T20 competition.

Both Charlotte Anderson and Callie Bradbury made centuries as Suffolk piled on the runs after being out into bat by Cricket East in the ECB U18 KO Cup at Thurleigh Playing Fields in Bedfordshire.

Anderson 117 (107 balls, 16 x 4) and Bradbury compiled an opening partnership of 183, of which Bradbury contributed 52.

However, she came into her own as she ended on 110 not out (143 deliveries, 18 x 4), adding 65 undefeated for the fourth wicket with Beatrice Nickell (26 not out off 33) as Suffolk closed their 50 overs on 291 for 3. The scoreboard is picture above at the end of the innings.

The young Suffolk side, expertly led by captain Megan Haynes, bowled extremely well, resulting in Cricket East being 53 all out in 16.4 overs in their reply.

Alice Nickell, who is clearly back to her best after last season’s ACL injury, claimed a hat-trick and finished with figures of 5-2-8-3.

Ivy Davison was the most successful Suffolk bowler, returning 3.4-2-6-4, and Bradbury 3-0-18-2.

The bowlers were brilliantly backed up by some high quality fielding including some sharp work behind the stumps from Hettie Thorogood including the stumping of the Cricket East captain.

Suffolk similarly short work of Cambridgeshire Cricket Board in Group 6 of the U18 T20 competition, dismissing their hosts for 103 in their first game at the Anglo-American Playing Fields in Saffron Walden.

Suffolk, who were missing a player and fielding a very young side, won the toss and elected to field and once again bowled well.

Despite having only 10 players, Suffolk backed up their bowlers with an excellent fielding display.

After three wickets for the opening bowling pair of Nickell and Bradbury and a first wicket at this level for Alexa Melton, the pick of the bowlers was Imogen Grove with 4-1-15-3.

Six catches were also shared between Nickell and Bradbury.

After losing Anderson to the first ball of the innings and Melton to the third, Nickell (29 off 39) and Haynes added 90 for the third wicket.

Haynes finished undefeated with 57 off 62 with six fours as Suffolk wrapped up a seven-wicket win with nine balls to spare.

In the second game, Suffolk bowled out their host for just 55 in 16.1 overs.

Freya Hargreave took her first wicket at this level, but the pick of the bowlers was Izzy Gebhard, with 4-0-9-4.

A partnership of 28 between openers Anderson and Nickell set the platform for Suffolk’s reply, before Melton and Haynes combined with Nickell to knock off the remaining runs inside 14 overs.
