Four wins from four for Suffolk

June 16, 2025

SUFFOLK made it four wins from four in this season’s NCCA T20 competition with two thumping victories in Sunday’s double-header at Lincolnshire.

The two wins at Bourne CC followed on from doubling Cambridgeshire a week earlier at Ipswich School to leave Suffolk top of Group 2.

After Sunday’s wins by first seven and then eight wickets, head coach Adam Mansfield enthused: “It was another fantastic performance from the boys.

“To win four out of four is beyond what we expected, but they’ve thoroughly deserved to be in this position.

“There’s been a real hunger and pride in representing the county, and that’s all I can ask for as a coach. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going and push on to qualify for the Super 12s.”

Former Kent bowler Arafat Bhuiyan, who was making his debut, and Freddie Cloud took two wickets apiece as Suffolk restricted Lincolnshire to 128 for 4 in the opening game on Sunday.

The visitors made short shrift of their target thanks to Kieran Pell’s maiden half-century for Suffolk. Pell cleared the ropes four times as he struck an undefeated 50 from 31 deliveries.

He figured in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 64 with Darren Ironside as Suffolk won by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare after opener Alex Maynard’s 27 off 24.

The second win was even more comprehensive – this time by eight wickets with 27 balls unused after Lincolnshire once again won the toss and elected to bat first.

At 67 for 1 after 11 overs the home team were well-placed, but then lost four wickets for as many runs to subside to 71 for 5.

They closed on 116 for 7 as Cloud, captain Josh Cantrell and Dan Shanks each picked up two wickets.

An opening partnership of 83 in just 10.4 overs between Maynard and Jacob Marston (pictured above) set Suffolk on course for a comfortable victory.

Maynard fell for 40 off 27 balls and Marston followed five balls later for 37 off 41, before Adam Jones and 27 from 14 from Pell, who is growing in confidence with each innings, saw Suffolk home.

Cantrell took four wickets for 12 runs the previous week as Suffolk won the first match by 11 runs after posting 127 for 7 thanks to 20s from Maynard, Marston and Pell before Cambridgeshire closed on 116 for 8.

Jones then registered his maiden half-century for the county as he ended 85 not out off 64 balls (10 x 4, 1 x 6) as Suffolk won the second encounter by 26 runs.

He added 82 for the third wicket with Pell (26) before Henry Bevan, who made his senior debut in the first match, added a quickfire 21 off 9 balls in Suffolk’s 160 for 3.

Shanks (3 for 27), Cloud (3 for 19) and Cantrell (2 for 25) ensured the visitors were restricted to 134 all out in reply.
