Tough task ahead in Super 12s
July 10, 2025SUFFOLK have been handed a tough task if they are to reach finals day in this season’s NCCA T20 competition.
They will face Berkshire, who will have home advantage after winning their group, and Dorset at Wargrave CC in the Super 12s on Sunday, August 3rd.
Berkshire topped Group 3 with seven wins and just one loss in eight games, while Dorset were runners-up in Group 4, after four wins and four defeats.
Berkshire have reached finals day in each of the last two seasons, going out to eventual winners Staffordshire in the 2023 semi-final.
They then lost to the same opponents on the toss of a coin in last year’s semi-final, before the final was washed out and the NCCA decided not to award the trophy.
Only one of the three teams from Suffolk’s group will qualify for the finals day, which will feature all four winners from the Super 12s stage and be held at Wormsley on Sunday, August 24th.
Suffolk qualified for the Super 12s for the first time after finishing third on net run-rate behind Group 2 winners Cambridgeshire and runners-up Norfolk.
That followed their final two matches on Sunday versus Hertfordshire at West Herts CC in Watford being rain-affected.
The first was abandoned with hosts Hertfordshire 6 for 0 after one over in reply to Suffolk’s 154 for 6, while the second was cancelled after the umpires deemed conditions too wet for play.
After failing to win a single group game last season – Suffolk lost three and had three abandoned due to the weather – qualification for the Super 12s marks a significant upturn in fortunes.
Their progress in the format this season is reflected in the fact that Suffolk’s Adam Jones (pictured batting above) finished leading run-scorer in Group 2.
The Sudbury skipper scored 285 runs in his seven innings, recording four fifties, including twin half-centuries versus Norfolk. He was only dismissed four times and ended with an average of 71.25.
Suffolk’s Dan Shanks was the most economical bowler in Group 2 with an economy rate of 5.03. The Hadleigh captain captured nine wickets across the six innings in which he bowled.
He returned stand-out figures of 4-0-15-2 and 4-0-19-1 in the two losses to Norfolk when Suffolk conceded a combined 359 runs in 34.5 overs across the two matches.
