Suffolk Girls battle hard in cup quarter-final
August 5, 2025SUFFOLK lost their ECB Girls’ U18 County One-Day Knock Out Cup Quarter Final fixture versus Surrey by six wickets.
Surrey won the toss and elected to bowl first at Long Melford CC.
Charlotte Anderson and Henrietta Croot opened the batting for Suffolk. Croot fell for eight and Laila Hollis for six before captain Megan Haynes joined Anderson to put on a superb partnership of 96 before Haynes was out for 37.
Callie Bradbury and Anderson put of 25 together before Bradbury was run out by some outstanding Surrey fielding.
Two more Suffolk wickets fell before Izzy Gebhard (17) and Adithi Thayur (15) added important runs alongside Anderson to get Suffolk to 219 for 8 from their 50 overs.
Anderson was the standout-batting performer for Suffolk, scoring 98 not out.
Chasing a target of 220 to win, Surrey got off to a fast start, posting 37 for 0 off their first four overs and reached 77 for 0 off 10 overs.
A change of bowling by captain Megan Haynes saw Ismene Johnson take the first wicket in the 11th over, caught behind by Anderson to make the score 79 for 1.
Surrey continued their progress towards the target and had reached 144 for 1 off 19 overs before another bowling change from Haynes saw Callie Bradbury take two wickets in her second over, both caught behind by Anderson, to leave Surrey 148 for 3.
With Surrey 183 for 3, opening bowler Izzy Gebhard returned to the attack to claim a fourth Surrey wicket, yet again caught behind by Anderson with the total on 202, but Surrey achieved their target in the 31st over.
Pick of the Suffolk bowlers on the day were Johnson (4 overs, 15 runs, 1 wicket) and Bradbury (5 overs, 18 runs, 2 wickets).
