Suffolk U18s dodge the rain to secure win

August 6, 2025

SUFFOLK U18s won their ECB Girls’ U18 County One Day Group 7 fixture versus Lincolnshire U18 by 32 runs.

Lincolnshire won the toss and elected to bowl first at Ipswich School on Monday.

Charlotte Anderson and Henrietta Croot opened the batting and got Suffolk off to an encouraging start, rotating the strike well until Anderson fell for 20 to the final ball of the eighth over. Captain Megan Haynes joined Croot, but the latter fell three balls later with the score still on 41.

Haynes, having been joined at the crease by Izzy Gebhard, lost her wicket to some very good fielding from Lincolnshire.

Callie Bradbury and Gebhard put of 11 together before Gebhard was out for six just as rain started to fall. One more Suffolk wicket fell before play was suspended with Suffolk in a spot of trouble at 60 for 5.

Play resumed 20 minutes later with Bradbury and Scarlett Fletcher at the crease. Suffolk added nine further runs before Fletcher fell for nine.

Ivy Davidson joined Bradbury with the score 69 for 6 and they set about rebuilding the Suffolk innings with a very welcome partnership of 40 before another great catch by the fielding team removed Davidson for 13.

Bradbury went on to top-score with 38 before she was out to leave Suffolk 132 for 9. The final wicket fell at 139, leaving Lincolnshire a target of 140 to win.

Lincolnshire top four fell cheaply, with Daisy Ditcham and Gebhard taking two wickets each to leave the visitors 26 for 4.

Their middle order rebuilt their innings with S. Slater-Rowley their top scorer until Alice Nickell removed her middle stump for 24 to make the score 42 for 5.

Haynes then turned to Ismene Johnson, who responded with the wicket of the Lincolnshire captain in her first over and a second wicket in her second over, in between which Bradbury and Molly Talbot combined superbly to run out M. Townend. All of which left Lincolnshire 77 for 8 and some way from their target.

However, some determined rearguard action from E. Hannan (16) and T. Henry (11) saw Lincolnshire edge towards the target. Until that is, Haynes returned to Ditcham to finish things off for Suffolk. Ditcham did exactly what was asked of her, removing the final two Lincolnshire wickets to leave them 107 all out

Pick of the Suffolk bowlers on the day was Ditcham with 7.4 overs, 22 runs, 4 wickets).
