U19 T10 Suffolk Smash
September 4, 2025After being a T20 competition since its inception the Suffolk U19 competition saw a change for 2025.
The inaugural U19 T10 Suffolk Smash saw 4 teams (Copdock and OI CC, Hadleigh CC, Melton Achilles Youth CC and Woolpit CC) take part in a one day event held at Copdock and OI Cricket Club. The included 4 T10 matches, six hitting competitions, fastest bowler among a range of additional activities for players and spectators to take part in.
Despite a less than favourable forecast the weather gods were kind to everyone with Copdock and Melton starting off the day in the first Semi-Final. A strong Copdock side batted first amassing an impressive 165 runs in their 10 overs with Ishaan Rakesh and Ollie Burle both reaching their half centuries before retiring. In response the Melton innings was checked reguarly by the Copdock bowlers and the home side ran out winners.
The second Semi-Final pitted Hadleigh and Woolpit together. It was Woolpit who batted first setting a target of 100 for Hadleigh chase, Conor Berry scoring 50 retired and Frank Rogers taking 2 wickets fro Hadleigh from his 10 overs. Despite not losing a wicket Hadleigh fell 30 runs short of the target .
A heavy shower threatened to cutail the day but soon relented allowing for the play off and final to proceed as planned.
Hadleigh faced up against Melton in the play off match. A close encounter saw Hadleigh bat first with Frank Rogers setting the pace with 41 from 25 balls the mainstay of a total of 76/1 from a reduced 9 over game. A brisk 34 from Tom Mitchell set Melton on their way but steady wickets slowed the scoring leaving Melton 10 runs short of their target.
Copdock and Woolpit contested the final with the host club batting first. It was a similar tale with Burle retiring upon reaching his 5o and Rakesh with a quick fire 34 setting a strong base for Copdock to reach 133 from their 10 overs. Chasing a large target was always going to be tough and despite each of the Woolpit top 4 reaching double figures boundaries were hard to come by and the Copdock bowlers saw the game out.
