Suffolk men ranked joint sixth in 2025

SUFFOLK men’s head coach Adam Mansfield said the highlight of the 2025 season was ‘continuing to punch above our weight’ after finishing joining sixth among the 20 National Counties.

A point-based ranking system was introduced by the NCCA for the first time last season, with the counties awarded points for their performances across all three formats.

Suffolk finished runners-up in Eastern Division One of the NCCA Cluberly Championship, lost in the semi-finals of the NCCA Trophy and qualified for the NCCA T20 Super 12s for the first time.

That meant Suffolk finished joint sixth on 47 points with neighbours Norfolk, who won the NCCA T20 competition, which earned both counties a performance-related financial payment of £2,900.

Dorset were the leading county with 70 points, winning them £4,000, Berkshire second (58pts, £3,800) and Buckinghamshire third (51pts, £3,600).

Mansfield said: “I was really pleased with our performance last year and joint sixth overall was definitely a fair reflection on how we played.

“To perform well across all three formats is a first for us and nice improvement from the previous year. I would say the highlight of the season was continuing to punch above our weight for the size of county we are in.”

Buckinghamshire won the NCCA Cluberly Championship title for the second time in three seasons, after defeating Devon in the play-off final.

They finished five points ahead of Suffolk in Eastern Division One, leaving Suffolk to rue their decision to forfeit an innings in pursuit of victory in their opening three-day fixture against Buckinghamshire at Bury St Edmunds CC.

Mansfield, whose side were bowled out for 156 to lose by 119 runs, said: “Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the time we wanted to try and win the Bucks fixture and we will always take the positive approach.

“Unfortunately, looking back it was the wrong thing to do and that has probably cost us finishing first in the division.”

Looking ahead to next season, Mansfield added: “We want to build on 2025 and see how high we can finish in the overall standings.

“We have some promising youngsters coming through and we need to integrate those into our squad. It is an exciting time for Suffolk Cricket.”
