Suffolk’s Safeguarding is a ‘shining light’

SUFFOLK Cricket is seen as a ‘shining light’ for its safeguarding in the county.

Nick Shrubshall, who is standing down after 10 years as Chair of Suffolk Cricket Ltd, made the remark at Tuesday night’s AGM held at Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC.

He said: “We are seen as a shining light in Safeguarding across the country.”

He thanked County Safeguarding Officer Lizzie Shaw and Millie Wildish, who is the county’s Safeguarding Director, for their efforts.

President Tony Warrington, who thanked Shrubshall for his 10 years’ service, said he had received very positive feedback from parents he had spoken to while watching the county’s age group sides last season.

He said: “The feedback I am getting is that the organisation of Suffolk cricket coaching is first class. They like playing cricket for Suffolk because the coaching is so well organised compared to other sports.

“I would like to pass on my thanks to Lizzie Shaw, Ben Wallis, Adam Mansfield and Chris Gange for their efforts.”

Suffolk County Cricket Club Chair Andrew Squire said that the coaching was paying dividends as Charlotte Anderson had been selected for the Essex Academy along with Evie Booker, who has recently returned to Suffolk from Norfolk.

Charlie Bennett and Mackenzie Jones, who have both previously played for Suffolk, have signed one-year rookie contracts with Essex, while Ollie Burle played for Warwickshire’s Academy and 2nd XI sides last season.

Squire also confirmed that Suffolk are looking to host a Showcase match against the Essex Eagles next season as they did in 2024.

Toby Pound, who has stood down after 34 years as secretary of Suffolk Cricket, was made an Honorary Life Member of the Association.

Pound, who also sat on the MCCA Management Committee and has served as a Non-Executive Director of the NCCA, said: “I have enjoyed pretty much every minute of it.

“It is a great privilege to be made an Honorary Life Member.”

David Mann was elected as the new Chair of Suffolk Cricket Ltd and new operations manager Vicki Askew as a director of the company. Ensors were re-elected as accountants and auditors.
