New Chair vows to help clubs develop and grow

December 12, 2025

NEW Suffolk Cricket Ltd Chair David Mann has vowed to get closer to clubs in the county to help them develop and grow.

Mann, who has been involved in local cricket for half-a-century, was elected as the new Chair of Suffolk Cricket Ltd at Tuesday’s annual meeting at Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC.

Safter serving as a Non-Executive Director of Suffolk Cricket Ltd for the past two years, Mann (pictured above) takes over from Nick Shrubshall, who has stood down after 10 years as Chair.

Mann, who was born in Ipswich and educated at Hadleigh High School, played for Hadleigh CC between the ages of ten and 49, and has held just about every post within the club.

In addition to being 1st XI and 2nd X1 Captain, junior coach, committee member, fundraising committee, Mann was the club’s Vice Chair for seven years and Chair for a further seven years.

The 60-year-old said: “I have been on the board for two years as Non-Executive Director responsible for recreational cricket, and it has been fascinating to be involved in the decision-making processes for the betterment of Suffolk Cricket – it is much harder than it seems!”

Mann, who has worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years in various roles, said he was ‘flattered’ when Shrubshall first mentioned about the possibility of him taking over as Chair.

“When Nick first ran the idea past me about taking over as Chair, I was flattered but thought it was too early for me to take over but when Nick and Rob Jones (Operations Manager) began showing me the ropes, it was obvious my business experience, my club cricket knowledge and my love of all things Suffolk cricket would be a good fit for the role.

“I am looking forward to giving something back to Suffolk Cricket, as well as building on the excellent legacy left by Nick and Rob,” he said.

Mann, who is currently branch manager for Arch Insurance for East Anglia and is based in Colchester, added: “I am really looking forward to the next three years.

“Vicki Askew, our new operations manager, will help our drive to get as many people as possible, regardless of age, gender and ability, playing cricket in Suffolk.

“We will ensure we get closer to all the Suffolk cricket clubs, helping them develop and grow. We will push to make it easier to volunteer at cricket clubs, we will grow and work closer to our commercial partners, and I would love to see Suffolk CCC men or women win a trophy.

“Suffolk Cricket punches above its weight and I will do all I can to ensure this continues. If anyone wants to help me and the Board grow Suffolk cricket, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.”
