Maddy named new Women’s 1st XI T20 captain

April 7, 2026

MILDENHALL all-rounder Maddy Reynolds has been named as the new T20 captain of Suffolk Women’s 1st XI for the 2026 season, writes Jack Oastler.

The 22-year-old, who described it as a ‘huge honour’ to lead the county, stood in for her predecessor Lara Neild twice last season, with a win and a loss.

She oversaw Suffolk’s record-breaking win over Cricket East in September, where her team recorded their highest-ever total of 297.

Maddy (pictured bowling above) will also be taking the reins for Mildenhall in the Iceni Women’s Premier League, as they aim to win their third consecutive title.

Born in Norwich, Reynolds came through Norfolk’s age-group system before moving south of the border. This year will be her fourth season playing for Suffolk’s 1st XI.

In that time, she has established herself as a reliable opening bowler, taking the new ball in all five matches she played last year.

The fiery fast bowler regularly rushed batters on her way to claiming five wickets at an average of 27.40; her standout performance was a miserly 2 for 6 in three overs, in a rain-shortened cup-tie against Devon.

Despite primarily featuring as a bowler in her Suffolk career thus far, Reynolds is an accomplished batter: she struck a Premier League century against Copdock in 2023.

Arguably her finest moment in Suffolk colours came with the bat, in a tense 50-over chase against Cornwall last summer. Coming in at No.11, Suffolk still needed 40 to win – Reynolds struck a calm, unbeaten 16, and got her side over the line with an authoritative drive to the long-on boundary.

Suffolk’s batting is an area which Reynolds has marked for improvement under her captaincy. “Having played against most of the people in my team at club level, I know the talent we have.

“I know they can very easily bat first and score a lot of runs. But last year, we seemed to struggle to set totals; we weren’t converting that potential into match-winning scores.

“My aim is to focus on how we can build an innings. It’s about partnerships, rotating the strike, and building a foundation that allows our batters to flourish at the right time.

“It’s about giving them a clear plan so they can have faith in their own ability to build something substantial.”

Looking at the year ahead, she is optimistic.

“I think we are going to do really well, if we play to our strengths. We have a talented squad, and if we can solve that puzzle of setting totals and building pressure with the bat, we will be a very difficult side to beat.

“I’m confident that if we stick to our processes and back each other, we can have a very successful season.”
