Four changes to Suffolk side at Sudbury
May 8, 2026SUFFOLK make four changes to their side for Sunday’s NCCA NV Play One Day Trophy Group One match versus Shropshire at Sudbury CC, start 11am.
Feroze Khushi, Alex Oxley and Dan Shanks, who were all unavailable for last weekend’s double-header, return to the side for the Friars Street fixture sponsored by Atkins Dellow solicitors.
Archie Jones, Ben Parker, Kieran Pell and Henry Bevan all drop out, while James Bridges (pictured above), who made his debut at Cheshire but missed the Cumbria match due to sitting a university exam, comes back in.
After losing twice last weekend, Suffolk’s chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages for a sixth season in a row are hanging by a thread.
Men’s 1st XI head coach Adam Mansfield said “It’s a huge boost to have both Feroze and Alex back.
“We did okay with the bat at the weekend, but their experience will add a lot and give everyone more confidence. You need to have that confidence and belief in cricket that you can go and win.
“It will also be good to have Dan Shanks back. He’s just run the London Marathon and looks fit and we are excited to see him back in a Suffolk shirt and hopefully he can make a big impact.”
A 116-run loss to Cheshire was followed by a two-wicket defeat to Cumbria, where Suffolk twice looked to have seized the initiative in the hosts’ innings only to fail to capitalise.
“We fielded quite poorly in both games, and with the ball we bowled way too many boundary balls.
“We have to find a way to change that momentum as well when the ball starts rolling against us; we need to try and find a way to drag it back in our favour, which is difficult to do when you are a young team and you haven’t played much cricket apart together.
“You need the impact bowler who can come on and change something,” said Mansfield.
“It was a tough weekend with two away matches and all the travelling involved, but the boys should be proud of their efforts, although things didn’t quite go our way.
“It looks like it will be difficult for us to qualify for the quarter-finals as we need results to go our way now, with Cheshire already through and Cumbria having won two out of two.
“It is about playing for pride and representing Suffolk and getting ourselves a few wins to hopefully take that momentum into the rest of the season,” he added.
Entrance to the match is free, Suffolk main sponsor JLS Catering Group’s food truck will be on site and there will be both inside and outside bars open during the day.
Suffolk squad: Jack Beaumont, Feroze Khushi, Ollie Burle, Darren Ironside, Alex Oxley, Josh Cantrell (capt), Jacob Marston (wkt), Freddie Heldreich, Dan Shanks, Freddie Cloud, James Bridges. 12th man: Archie Jones.
