Women ease to victory at Chelmsford
June 7, 2026A STAND of 97 saw Suffolk Women’s 1st XI ease to an eight-wicket win against Cambridgeshire.
The T20 friendly was held at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground in Chelmsford on Sunday before Essex Women’s Vitality Blast fixture versus Hampshire Hawks.
It was the first time that Suffolk Women had played at the home of Essex CCC and they marked the occasion by running out comfortable winners against their neighbours.
After winning the toss and inserting Cambridgeshire, Suffolk restricted their opponents to 111 for 8 – a target they knocked off from the first ball of the 16th over.
That they did so was down to Charlotte Anderson, who ended 47 not out, and Dia Nair, who was caught at deep mid-wicket trying to finish the match in style just after reaching her half-century.
They came together in the third over after Amelie Clarke was run out for ten with the total on 14, and weren’t parted until Nair’s dismissal for a well-crafted 50 off 45 deliveries.
Opening bat Anderson, who is currently with the Essex Academy, showed her class with a composed innings spanning 37 deliveries.
Suffolk could have been chasing a lesser total but for the fact they put down several catches in Cambridgeshire’s innings.
Seven of the nine different bowlers used claimed a wicket, with Lauren Swinburne returning the best figures of 3-1-11-2.
Suffolk skipper Maddy Reynolds said afterwards: “To only lose two wickets and for our No.3 batter to go and score a fifty was just incredible to watch and to showcase the batting we have even from our youngsters was really impressive.
“We were very excited, especially getting those winning runs at the end we were all ecstatic. We had a great time being here both bowling and batting.”
