Suffolk suffer T20 points deduction

June 9, 2026

SUFFOLK have been docked four points for fielding an unregistered player in the NCCA Dojo T20 competition.

The Men’s 1st XI won both their matches versus Cambridgeshire a week ago on Sunday by 37 runs and 12 runs respectively to get their Group Two campaign off to a flying start.

However, NCCA Operations Manager Richard Logan has now notified Suffolk they fielded an unregistered player in both games.

Under competition rules, fielding an unregistered player is treated the same as fielding an ineligible player and results in a deduction of two points per match.

The ruling means that instead of sitting second behind Lincolnshire with four points from two matches, who have six from four, Suffolk drop to the foot of the table with no points.

A statement released by Suffolk Cricket said: “Firstly, we disagree completely with the punishment imposed for what was clearly an administrative oversight.

“By deducting four competition points, the individuals being punished are the players who performed on the field, rather than those responsible for the registration process.

“Given the circumstances surrounding the selection of the player, who was called up at short notice, we do not believe the sanction reflects either the nature or intent of the breach.

“Whilst we acknowledge that an administrative error has been made, we believe the circumstances surrounding this case should be taken into account, particularly given the late call-up and the absence of any intention to circumvent the regulations or gain an unfair advantage.”

Suffolk face group leaders Lincolnshire in a double-header at Hadleigh CC on Sunday, start 11am.
