‘Something special’ about playing final at Copdock

July 16, 2026

THERE will be ‘something special’ about Sunday’s NV Play NCCA Trophy Final taking place at a club ground in Suffolk.

Richard Logan, who is Operations Manager of the NCCA, also believes there will be a ‘real charm’ in the showpiece occasion being held at Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC, start 11am.

Berkshire face Cheshire in the 50-over final, which has previously traditionally been played at Lord’s and Wormsley, two of the most iconic cricket grounds in the world.

Logan said: “We’re genuinely excited about it. Suffolk has never hosted the One Day Trophy Final before, so this is a first for the county and a real moment for cricket here.

“Martin (Taylor) and his team at Copdock & OI have been fantastic hosts to work with, and having Suffolk’s own cricket board involved from the start has made this feel like a proper community occasion, especially with the Under-9 Festival running alongside the final on the day. To bring a national final to a local ground is exactly what National Counties cricket is all about.”

Of the previous 42 finals, Lord’s has staged it 19 times and more recently Wormsley has hosted it on 12 occasions, but Logan is looking forward to bringing the final to Suffolk.

“There’s definitely something special about it. Lord’s and Wormsley are extraordinary venues, no question, but there’s a real charm in bringing the final to a ground like Copdock – it’s a proper, well-loved club ground with a strong cricketing community around it.

“In some ways, it feels more true to what this competition is about: the pinnacle of the recreational game. The wicket here has a brilliant reputation and will no doubt produce an extremely high standard of cricket with two exceptional teams. It’s a different kind of special, not a lesser one.”

Asked what he is hoping for from the day, Logan said: “Honestly, I just want it to be a brilliant advert for NCCA cricket and for Copdock and Suffolk as a cricketing club and county. A good crowd, a close match, and a real sense of occasion – that’s always the goal.

“We’d love families to come down and make a day of it, not just die-hard cricket fans. I have no doubt that with all the effort and organisation that has gone into the day from Copdock, it will be a brilliant day and a final that people remember fondly.”

Suffolk County Cricket Chair Andrew Squire said: “It is a huge honour for the county of Suffolk to stage such a prestigious occasion, especially when you consider this final was previously played for many years at Lord’s and then Wormsley.

“I am sure Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC will do a splendid job as hosts and I hope the county’s cricketing community come out and support what promises to be a memorable day.”

General admission to the final is £14, with children under-16 free of charge. Tickets can be purchased in advance via Suffolk Cricket’s social media channels or through Eventbrite by searching for ‘One Day NCCA Trophy Finals 2026’ on your device.
