July 21, 2026

HONOURS ended even in the ECB Vitality U18 T20 Group 6 encounters between Suffolk and Norfolk.

Suffolk chased down a target of 120 to win the first match by four wickets, before Norfolk won the second game by a seven-wicket margin after being set 140.

After Suffolk won the toss at Bury St Edmunds CC and elected to field, Norfolk openers A Horsley and B Borges got off to a flying start until Evie Tassell struck with her final ball of the second over to leave Norfolk 22 for 1 off two overs.

Izzy Gebhard then bagged two wickets in an over and Tassell took her second wicket as Norfolk slumped to 26 for 4 off four overs.

The visitors staged a recovery to end the ninth over on 51 for 4, and with four overs remaining they had advanced to 99 for 8.

R Davey and B Harrod then added a further 20 runs as Norfolk closed on 119 for 8.

Charlotte Anderson got Suffolk’s reply off to a flying start, scoring 19 from 13 balls before being caught to leave Suffolk 25 for 1 from four overs.

Captain Callie Bradbury and Hettie Thorogood took the Suffolk total to 54 when Bradbury was bowled for 17 to end a partnership of 22 for the third wicket.

When Thorogood was stumped for 23, Suffolk were 88 for 5 and still needing 32 runs to win.

However, Gebhard and Livvy Swallow steadied the Suffolk innings with Gebhard hitting 22 from nine balls including a four to secure a four-wicket win with five balls to spare.

Suffolk won the toss and again chose to bat in the second match, and after a slow start Bradbury joined Anderson at the crease and the pair set about upping the run rate.

They added 38 runs before Anderson was out, caught by Borges off the bowling of N Rushton for 24 off 25 deliveries.

Gebhard and Bradbury took the Suffolk total to 77 when they lost their third wicket as Gebhard was caught by Borges off the bowling of I Fox for 17.

The pairing of Tassell and Bradbury pushed for every run until Tassell was run out for a quickfire 15 from 11 balls and when Bradbury was caught for 40 off 35, Suffolk were 115 for 5 with three overs remaining.

Isla Tolchard (17 off 15) and Swallow (8 off 4) added 23 valuable runs to lift the Suffolk total to 139 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Norfolk again got off to a flying start as they did in the first game, but the key difference this time was no loss of wicket, reaching 36 for 0 from just four overs.

Bradbury turned to Freya Clark and Tolchard to try to secure a breakthrough and Tolchard obliged almost immediately by removing Horsley for 12.

Clark struck next as E Broad departed for five in the ninth over, but Norfolk at 73 for 2 were already over half way to their target of 140.

Tolchard broke through again in the 12th over, getting the wicket of Borges, but that was to be the last breakthrough for Suffolk as the bowlers tried their best to stem the runs but to no avail.

Thanks to a fantastic 74 not out with ten fours off 51 balls from Fox, Norfolk reached their target with two overs unused.
