Girls enjoy U12 Softball Festival

AROUND 40 Under-12 Girls took part in the biggest Softball Festival to be held in Suffolk this year.

Six teams – Bury St Edmunds, Melton St Audry’s ‘A’ and ‘B’, Walsham-le-Willows, Woolpit and Worlington – attended the festival staged at Bury St Edmunds CC.

The event was organised by Amy Richford, Suffolk Cricket Women’s & Girls’ Cricket Development Officer, who said: “It was fantastic to see so many girls on the field playing cricket at the same time.

“It was also really good to see so many different clubs represented.

“Thank you to all involved – coaches, players and parents.

“There was lot of fun had on the day and some brilliant cricket on display.”

Among the parents watching was former Bury St Edmunds CC and Suffolk Men’s 1st XI captain Justion Bishop, whose daughter Evie was playing in the Bury St Edmunds side.

He said: “She has played in quite a few Softball Festivals this year, but this is the first all girls’ one and she is loving it.

“She didn’t start playing until this year. She also plays football and really likes the team ethic.

“Evie and her Nellie, who is also playing today, have become good friends through both school and sport.”

Rose Park, daughter of Bishop’s Bury St Edmunds team-mate Sean Park, was also in the same team.
