Two changes for Men’s 1st XI

July 30, 2026

SUFFOLK Men’s 1st XI make two changes to their side for their NCCA Cluberly Championship Eastern Division One match against Buckinghamshire.

Josh Cantrell (pictured bowling above) and Dan Shanks, who were both unavailable for the victory over Northumberland in Suffolk’s opening three-day fixture, return for the match at Chesham CC, starting on Sunday (11am).

Freddie Heldreich and Luke Froggatt, who was called up for his first appearance in almost three years for the fixture at Bury St Edmunds CC but is unavailable for this match, both drop out.

Suffolk Head Coach Adam Mansfield admitted it had been a really tough decision to leave former Northamptonshire spinner Heldreich out of the side.

He scored 50 in the first innings on his home ground and together with Feroze Khushi shared a Suffolk record sixth-wicket stand of 111 against Northumberland.

He went wicketless in the eight overs he delivered in the visitors’ reply and was not called upon to bowl in their second innings.

“Fred unfortunately misses out and Josh Cantrell comes back in,” said Mansfield.

“Josh is one of the best players in National Counties cricket, in my opinion, and it’s unfortunate for Fred as he played really nicely at Bury St Edmunds and has been going well in league cricket,”

After recording a win in their opening Championship match for the first time since 2021, Suffolk will face a Buckinghamshire side who thumped Staffordshire by 187 runs first time out.

That was Staffordshire’s largest-ever defeat by a runs margin and came at Chesham, where spinners Connor Haddow (5 for 45) and Bertie Foreman (4 for 54) took nine second-innings wickets between them.

Buckinghamshire, last season’s overall NCCA Championship winners, followed that with an eight-wicket loss away to Northumberland earlier this week.

Mansfield said: “We will go into the game with confidence. Bucks are a brilliant red ball team and we will have to be at our best.

“I’m sure it’ll spin with all the dry weather we have been having. We have some good spinners so hopefully they’ll play a big part for us.”

Suffolk: Ollie Burle, Jack Beaumont (capt), Darren Ironside, Feroze Khushi, Alex Oxley, Josh Cantrell, Jacob Marston (wkt), Tom Harper, Dan Shanks, James Bridges, Chris Steele.
