Fenn Wright to sponsor Sudbury fixture

Fenn Wright are to sponsor Suffolk’s one-day fixture at Sudbury CC this season.

Sudbury will host the NCCA Trophy Group 3 fixture versus Cambridgeshire on Sunday, June 19th.

The county played host to a competitive Suffolk men’s 1st XI fixture for the first time last season when Suffolk defeated Hertfordshire by one run on the DLS method in a thrilling finish.

Fenn Wright is the region’s leading, independently owned firm of chartered surveyors, estate agents and property consultants, with eleven branches, five of which are in Suffolk, including Sudbury.

James Gunther, Partner at Fenn Wright, said: “Many of our staff are local to the area and the cricket club is known to them. As a business, we are passionate about supporting the communities in which we live and work.

“We have been advertising in the fixture card at the cricket club, and after a discussion with representatives of the club, we decided sponsoring an event involving the county of Suffolk would be a good way to show our support.

“I, and some of our team from Fenn Wright, will be attending the event to show our support and cheer them on.”

Sudbury CC Chairman Louis Brooks said: “The sponsorship will help us a great deal. We rely very much on local businesses and members’ income from our bar to keep the club going.

“Costs are always rising so without local support we would not be able to serve the community and put cricket on for everyone in the town and surrounding villages. It means we are able to host great matches like this and they are financially viable.”

Brooks said that Sudbury will be aiming to build on the success of last year’s fixture against Hertfordshire.

He said: “Last year was a great success despite the weather. The game was very exciting. We are hoping for a big crowd with a local county making the trip to Friars Street.

“We hope it will create more interest for Suffolk cricket and Sudbury cricket club in the town. We are always wanting new members, players and supporters so we hope this showcase match can boost the image of cricket in Sudbury and attract new people.”

Brooks said that outside catering will be serving hot food and there will be an ice cream van and bar open for the crowd.

“We will also be running some junior Kwik Cricket at the match interval between innings, so there will be plenty for people to enjoy. There will also be a match-day programme available,” he added.
