SKIPPER Natalie Samuels described it as the ‘culmination of a brilliant season’ after Suffolk Women scooped the Team of the Year Award at the Active Suffolk Awards 2022.

The Suffolk Women’s Cricket team were announced as the winners of the award at a glittering ceremony at Trinity Park on the outskirts of Ipswich on Friday night.

They pipped Needham Market Football Club and Orwell Panthers Athletics Club, who were also shortlisted, to claim the Team of the Year Award sponsored by Katala.

The Suffolk Women’s Cricket team were nominated for the award after winning the Vitality Women’s T20 Regional competition for the first time and then the East of England Championship at the first attempt.

Natalie and team-mate Lauren Swinburne were joined by Suffolk Performance Lead Andy Northcote at the awards ceremony which featured 12 categories and was attended by more than 200 people.

After collecting the award Natalie said: “This is the culmination of a brilliant season, where we really came together as a team and that really showed in our results.

“They are my Team of the Year every Year, but this recognition makes this year extra special.”

Andy Northcote added: “I am delighted that we’ve won this prestigious award and become the first county cricket side to do so!

“Natalie and I had a vision four years ago and with hard work and dedication from her, coach Rob Southall and the whole squad, they have achieved something that we all thought was just a dream.”
