SUFFOLK’S men’s sides have reeled off six successive victories in the past seven days.

All five sides in action over the past week won their six matches – and in some style too!

The men’s 1st XI defeated Lincolnshire by 10 wickets to preserve their NCCA Eastern Division One status for another season. (See separate report).

Suffolk Over-60s 1st XI enjoyed a five-wicket win away to Worcestershire in a Vase North group game at Birlingham CC on Tuesday.

After Worcestershire posted 260 for 5 in their 45 overs, Suffolk scored 261 for 5 in just 43 overs.

Captain Kevin Dobson (71 off 64 deliveries with eight fours and one six) and Keith Starr (52 off 61 balls) came together at 125 for 5 and added an unbroken 136 to guide Suffolk home.

On the same day Suffolk Over-60s 2nd XI won by 90 runs away to Wiltshire at Christian Malford CC in a Vase Group B game.

Suffolk’s Tony Locke (108 off 120, with 14 fours and two sixes) and Eddie Green (101 off 100, with 12 fours and two sixes) compiled an opening partnership of 202 in their 308 for 5 off 45 overs.

Their hosts reached 218 for 7 in reply, Suffolk skipper Malcolm Grubb claiming 9-2-22-3 as Suffolk confirmed their place in this season’s semi-finals.

The tie is scheduled to take place next Tuesday, although Suffolk are waiting to hear who their opponents will be and where the match will be played.

Suffolk Over-70s defeated Lincolnshire & North Ridings by seven wickets last Thursday to reach the semi-finals of the County Championship Cup.

They will now entertain Middlesex in the last four at Copdock & Old Ipswichian CC on Thursday, start 1pm.

Peter Webb returned figures of 6-1-31-2 as their hosts were restricted to 201 for 3 off their 40 overs at Haxey CC on Thursday.

Captain Neil Hames (32) and Gerald Artindale (61 off 107 balls) added 65 for the second wicket, before Artindale and Ken Jones (49 off 46) put on 81 for the third.

Artindale and Dave Hinchliffe (33 off just 17) then saw their side to victory with an undefeated stand of 47 for the fourth wicket.

The men’s 2nd XI enjoyed a rare victory over Essex Cricket Board in an East of England Development match on Friday, winning by seven wickets at Colchester & East Essex CC.

Essex CB made 274 for 7 off their 50 overs, before Suffolk replied with 276 for 3 in only 42.4 overs.

Ned Overbury (123 off 130 balls with 15 fours) and Aaron Joby with a run-a-ball 70 put on 189 for the second wicket to set up the win.

They then followed that up with a three-wicket win versus Bedfordshire at Bury St Edmunds CC on Bank Holiday Monday to climb to second place in the table behind Bedfordshire on net run rate.

The visitors, who fielded a strong side, posted 263 for 6 in their 50 overs, with Dan Shanks (pictured above) taking 10-0-42-3.

Opener Nico Boje (60 off 75 balls) set Suffolk on their way before Shanks (56 off 54 balls) and Alex Maynard (54 off 51) came together with the total on 149 for six.

They shared a seventh-wicket stand of 108 before Maynard was dismissed seven runs shy of victory as Suffolk went on to win with 11 balls to spare.
