Suffolk aim to continue T20 momentum
May 28, 2026SUFFOLK Men’s 1st XI will look to build on last year when they start their NCCA Dojo T20 campaign with a double-header away to Cambridgeshire on Sunday.
After sitting out the opening weekend of the competition, when all four teams in Group Two recorded a win apiece, Suffolk travel to Sawston & Babraham CC, start 11am.
Suffolk qualified for the Super 12s for the first time last season, before bowing out of the competition.
Ben Wallis (pictured above), who is one of Suffolk’s coaching staff this season, said: “The players are really up for this year’s competition and are keen to continue the momentum from last year’s success.
“Our target, as always, is to go as far in the competition as we can, ensuring that we stick to our plans and the way we want to play our cricket.
“We believe we have a very good group of players with the majority of them coming through our County Age Group (CAG) system.”
The two teams tied when they met in their final Group One game in the NV Play One Day Trophy at Mildenhall CC just a fortnight ago.
Wallis said: “It is always a very competitive game against Cambridgeshire. I am sure they will be a strong side, so it has all the signs to be a great couple of games.
“T20 cricket can always throw some surprises so we can’t go into games expecting to win, we still have to perform on the day.”
Jack Beaumont, Freddie Heldreich and James Bridges are missing from that match at Mildenhall, with Alex Maynard, Kieran Pell and Tom Harper, who were all involved in last year’s T20 campaign, called-up.
The side includes Feroze Khushi, the county’s new professional, who two years ago was opening the batting for Essex in T20 cricket.
“It’s a huge boost to have a player of his calibre in the side and it is great for our young players to play with a player that has played professional cricket,” said Wallis.
Jacob Marston will lead the side for the first time since being appointed as the county’s new vice-captain across all three formats for this season.
Suffolk: Alex Maynard, Feroze Khushi, Ollie Burle, Darren Ironside, Alex Oxley, Josh Cantrell, Kieran Pell, Jacob Marston (capt & wkt), Tom Harper, Dan Shanks, Freddie Cloud.
